AI2Peat at the “Power to the Peatlands” Conference

Power to the Peatlands Conference is this year’s biggest European Peatland symposium will take place from 19th-21st September in Antwerp, Belgium. The conference covers a wide range of peatland aspects such as scientific, management, and policy of peatland restoration and conservation. Peatlands are unique wetland ecosystems that act as vital carbon sinks, regulate climate, support rich biodiversity, and provide essential freshwater resources. However, they face threats from human activities such as draining and peat cutting, necessitating collaborative efforts for their protection and restoration. Conferences like “Power to the Peatlands” bring together researchers and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and innovative solutions to ensure the preservation and sustainable management of these remarkable landscapes.

The conference is organized by Natuurpunt, the University of Antwerp, and the partners of Interreg Care-Peat and ADMIRE, together with the European chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration, the International Mire Conservation Group, Wetlands International, Greifswald Mire Centre and the Society of Wetland Scientists

Our AI2Peat team will be presenting the work done from stakeholder engagement (interviews and ideation workshop) to the design of our solution, that is an all Ireland peatland condition map and collaborative network infrastructure (a blog post about the solution is on the way!).

Having our poster accepted at the “Power to the Peatlands” conference is an exciting opportunity to share and discuss the AI2Peat project. We look forward to the conference, where we anticipate engaging with fellow researchers, experts, and stakeholders. If you happen to be at the conference, find our team at the poster session.

Stay tuned for the poster!! We will post about our conference experience too.
